Learn to Speed Skate

1/25/2021

Together with the St Andrews Heights Community Association, the Calgary Grizzlies Speed Skating Club is pleased to offer free “Try Speed Skating” lessons to community members’ children and youth.
This initiative will follow the provincial COVID protocols. Waivers will need to be completed for those who register to participate. Equipment required includes skates (hockey, figure, or speed skates), helmet, protective eyewear (or helmet with facemask), proper clothing for weather, gloves or mitts worn at all times.

Schedule of Offerings
(for safety reasons, registration required for all offerings)
Mondays 5-6pm: Younger speed skaters (5-8+ years old) – community kids in this age group who are able to skate on their own (without aids) are welcome.
Wednesdays 5-6pm: Speed skaters in the “Learn to Train” (L2T, 9-12+ years old) and “Train to Train” (T2T, 11-15 years old) age groups – community kids in these age groups who are experienced skaters can join on coach’s recommendation (for safety reasons).
Fridays 5-6pm: Speed skaters in the L2T and T2T age groups – community kids in these age groups who are experienced skaters can join on coach’s recommendation (for safety reasons).
Saturdays 9-10am: Speed skaters in the L2T and T2T age groups – community kids in these age groups who are experienced skaters can join on coach’s recommendation (for safety reasons).
NOTE: coaches and speed skaters from the club will be available for an additional 30 min to help field questions and/or offer one-on-one support for kids of all levels who want to practice some drills. If there is more interest from the younger kids (5-8 years) in the community, we could open up more time for these kids.
Contact the Grizzlies at fun@yycspeed.ca for more details and to return registration waiver. Note that for logistical reasons we ask that kids register no later than 48 hours prior to any offering.
We look forward to seeing you on the ice.
